The land is scarred and broken but the spirit is alive and well.
There's a little bit of heaven in this place that once was hell.
And there's three thousand stories that can be read upon the face
of each who comes to kneel here in this sacred place.
We remember ... we remember
we pause, we shed a tear.
There's a whispered prayer upon the lips
for those who perished here.
The green grass in the meadow waves in the wind again.
And the birds are gently singing as they were back then.
The land has healed, it's been reborn ~ the seeds were planted deep
within the soil of liberty ~ freedom is the harvest we'll reap.
We remember ... we remember
that bright and shining day
when suddenly the skies turned dark
and the dove had flown away.
Concrete walls, once tumbled, have been rebuilt anew,
a tribute to our heroes ~ the brave, the proud, the few.
Defenders of our liberties, we salute you all this day
and bow our heads in gratitude as we humbly say ...
We remember ... we remember
though we cannot reason why
the golden sun just vanished
from out the summer sky.

"Call to remembrance, O Lord, thy tender mercy :
and thy loving-kindness, which hath been ever of old.
O remember not the sins and offences of my youth :
but according to thy mercy think thou on me, O Lord, for thy goodness."
Psalm xxv:5-6
