Did you see God at the Olympics?
In the mountains' majesty...
An inland state where salt water flows.
In the squares and streets bedecked with light,
And on faces a special glow.
Lofty steeples and voices soaring to the sky...
And jumps defying gravity, reaching for the clouds.
But you might have missed the one-man "team";
He was from Nepal and really didn't place.
But his English adoptive father was beside him.
His own father had once rescued that man,
lost and given up on a far away mountain.
It is for the rescued to come to the rescue.
Those four medals for the Croatian lady....
More a test of mettle ... her family had fled,
spent nights in caves ... skiied to freedom.
So many names not common to their new countries
for oppression drove them over borders ...
to the freedom they so fervently sought.
God gives all the freedom to choose.
On large and small rinks of ice the families watched.
And on one, a young man showed his love -
not just for his wife and homeland; also for his Lord.
The amazing grace was suddenly there!
For those not supposed to soar ...
whether down a mountainside
or landings angel soft on hard ice.
And nations applauded others who once were foes.
Alliances of heart, skill and talent ...
new bonds and old renewed.
Moments of conflict ... ugliness.
God permits us choices.
Native American tribes who put down "swords"
And made them into plowshares.
The third generation Olympian who won
as his grandfather watched from his heavenly home.
The team that won because friendship was true;
More important than a place on a stand.
The passing of that torch from all those before,
for those who would make new history
while the light shone over all.
No matter the gear or costume,
character mattered.
No matter which flag the highest,
all nations shared the glory.
Did you see God at the Olympics?
He was and is pure gold.
