Oh Mother cat, how proud you were

Kittens embedded in you warm fur;

No human footsteps

Near you would dare.

I watched you watch their every squirm

The love you gave was soft yet firm;

Your paw lashed out if you did not approve

You checked them, to protect them

At their every move.

And now they have grown

And your paths have parted

With kittens of their own

New lives have started.
