Dear Jesus ...

When my granny was sick and stayed with us,

this nice man came and said

something about two or more

getting together to pray.

Well, I can't count yet, Jesus,

but I've got my dollies near

and I hope that together we're enough

so you'll hear my prayer.

I miss my granny, Jesus,

and the stories that she read

about how You fed some people

with some fishies and some bread.

I don't really know what praying is,

but granny always said

that plain old talking was okay,

even just inside my head.

Granny said You're always there

and you hear every word.

She said You're all around us

like the sky, the sun, the birds.

Granny showed me pictures

of You walking on the waves -

It looked pretty scary

and I thought You must be brave!

She showed me Your last supper,

eating with a lot of men

I asked if you had french fries,

but she said, no, not back then.

Now that my granny's with You,

would You tell her I miss her so,

and tell her I think about her

everywhere I go.

Granny said You'd know me

when I talked to You in prayer,

and that You'd hear each word I said

because You really care.

Please give my granny a big hug

and tell her I'll be good

and do the things she taught me

and behave just as I should.

I'm feeling pretty sleepy now,

so I guess I'll say good night.

I'll talk to you again tomorrow,

if that would be all right.

Good night, Jesus,

sweet dreams!

Love,

Melinda
